Dear Senator or Representative
I am aware that the terminated "mixed-blood" Utes filed a federal action in the U.S. District Court, District of Columbia, to seek a declaration that the Ute Partition Act is null and void. The dilemma faced by the terminated Utes in reaching justice to restore their federally-recognized status as members of the Uinta Band of Utes and to seek reparation for damages caused by the Bureau of Indian Affairs must be elevated to the status of an international human rights issue. I am in total support to their efforts to bring out the truth behind this dark chapter of American history. There is no reason why they remain the victims of a rejected federal policy, "termination" that singled them out because of their racial and ethnic status.
The terminated Utes want to have their "day in court" so the facts will be heard and the truth about the systematic destruction of their tribal culture and loss of their land to non-Indians and the Ute Tribe will be exposed to the world. We expect that the United States government will do everything possible to prevent this. Therefore, I urge you to learn about their plight and their lawsuit and do everything in your power to help us correct this longstanding injustice.
Sincerely,
[Your name]
